Professor Isabel Izquierdo Barba is a Spanish scientist and academic recognized for her contributions to biomaterials, nanotechnology, and regenerative medicine. Born in Socuéllamos, Spain, in 1974, she earned her degree in Pharmacy in 1997 and completed her Ph.D. in Pharmacy in 2002 at the Complutense University of Madrid, receiving the Extraordinary Doctoral Award for her doctoral research. She has held research appointments at several international institutions, including Sorbonne University, Stockholm University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the University of Cádiz. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Ramón y Cajal Fellowship, and she later joined the faculty of the Complutense University of Madrid, where she is a professor in the Department of Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry. Her research focuses on the development of advanced biomaterials, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, bioactive glasses, and drug-delivery systems for bone regeneration, tissue engineering, and the treatment of bone diseases and infections. Professor Izquierdo Barba has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributed to several patents and book chapters, and has received international recognition for her work. In 2019, she was elected a Corresponding Member of the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy of Spain in recognition of her outstanding achievements in pharmaceutical nanomaterials and regenerative medicine.
