3BM MaterialsTech 2027: Bioresources · Biobased Materials · Bio-circularity

Following the great success of the previous edition held in Lisbon- Portugal, the 5th International Conference on Biobased Materials & Technologies — 3BM MaterialsTech 2027 — will bring together researchers, scientists, engineers, industry professionals and innovators to exchange knowledge and explore the latest advances in sustainable biobased materials and technologies. Building on the experience of previous editions, the conference will provide an international platform for presenting scientific discoveries, technological developments and industrial perspectives on the valorisation of renewable biological resources and the design, processing and application of innovative biobased materials.

The conference will address the entire value chain, from renewable feedstocks and biomass valorisation to material development, processing, performance evaluation and industrial implementation. Topics will include biobased polymers, natural fibres, biocomposites, functional coatings, sustainable packaging and other advanced materials derived wholly or partly from renewable resources. Particular attention will be given to sustainable manufacturing, resource efficiency, life-cycle assessment, circular material systems and end-of-life strategies, recognising that biobased origin does not necessarily imply biodegradability or overall environmental sustainability.

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening connections between academia and industry, 3BM MaterialsTech 2027 aims to accelerate the translation of research into practical solutions, encourage responsible material innovation and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable and circular economy. The fifth edition will continue to provide a forum for exchanging ideas, establishing partnerships and identifying emerging opportunities in biobased materials and their technologies, with a distinctive emphasis on renewable resources, material performance and bio-circular approaches.

Through its fifth edition, 3BM MaterialsTech 2027 seeks to strengthen its role as an international forum for advancing renewable-resource-based material technologies and supporting their contribution to a more sustainable, resource-efficient and circular future.

EU Project Spotlight Workshops — Call for Proposals

We invite coordinators and partners of EU-funded research and innovation projects to propose EU Project Spotlight Workshops at 3BM MaterialsTech 2027, taking place on 12–14 May 2027 in Rome, Italy.

These workshops will showcase project results and innovations in bioresources, biobased materials and bio-circularity, fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration and synergies between research and industry.
