Assembling building blocks of different nature to obtain high performance functional materials has become a widespread strategy in Materials Science. This symposium aims at bringing together Academia & Industry researchers interested in the latest progress on hybrid, biohybrid and composite materials. The Symposium will focus in recent developments in the processing, characterization and application of this emerging class of nanomaterials.
Due to its moderate size, the symposium’s ambition is to provide a forum for high level scientific discussion in a context that favors the exchange between the different participants on this wide interdisciplinary topic.
Expected contributions will span the wide processing approaches available for the assembly of organic compounds and/or components of biological origin to diverse inorganic nanoparticles, ranging from self-assembly mediated processing to additive manufacturing. In particular, sol-gel processes, intercalation, encapsulation, LbL assembling, 3D printing, among other techniques, will be considered. Advances in processing procedures to generate monoliths, nanofibers, foams, thin layer and multilayer nanostructures as well as their applications will be relevant features in the Symposium.
The Symposium topics will include the following aspects:
The Symposium will run for two days and start on the morning of Thursday April 27th, 2017 with an introductory Plenary Lecture by Professor Clément Sanchez from the Collège de France. Four invited keynote speakers will open sessions on the following topics:
1. Functional hybrid nanomaterials
2. Organic modifications of inorganic solids
3. Polymer nanocomposites
4. Biohybrids and biomimetic materials
