Tribology 2027- Advancing Tribology for a Sustainable, Digital and Resilient Future

The 6th edition of the Tribology International Conference – Tribology 2027 will take place in Rome, Italy. Following successful editions in Prague, Barcelona, Lisbon, Vienna, and Albufeira, the conference has become a leading international meeting point for researchers, academics, and industry professionals in the field of tribology.

The Tribology International Conference 2027 will bring together leading researchers, academics, engineers and industry professionals to explore the latest scientific advances and technological innovations in friction, wear, lubrication and surface engineering.

Building on the success of previous editions in Barcelona, Lisbon, Vienna, Albufeira and Prague, the 2027 conference will provide an international platform for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and the translation of research into industrial applications.

The scientific programme will address emerging challenges in advanced materials and surface engineering, sustainable and circular tribology, electrification and clean energy, artificial intelligence and digital twins, biotribology, and next-generation testing and characterisation methods.

With a strong focus on scientific excellence, technological innovation and industrial relevance, Tribology 2027 will encourage contributions that improve energy efficiency, extend component lifetime, reduce environmental impact and enhance the reliability and performance of engineering systems.

The conference will also provide opportunities to showcase results from European and international research and innovation projects, strengthen academia–industry partnerships, and support the transfer of promising technologies from laboratory research to industrial deployment.

Reflecting the green and digital transitions and Europe's ambitions for a more resilient and competitive industrial ecosystem, Tribology 2027 aims to advance tribology as a key enabling discipline for sustainable manufacturing, clean energy, future mobility and next-generation engineering systems.

The scientific programme will be organised around six thematic sessions:

  1. Advanced Tribology, Surface Engineering & Interface Science
  2. Sustainable, Circular & Bio-Inspired Tribology
  3. Tribology for Electrification, Clean Energy & Climate-Neutral Industry
  4. AI-Driven Tribology, Digital Twins & Autonomous Systems
  5. Tribology for Health, Mobility, Safety & Human-Centred Technologies
  6. Advanced Characterisation, Tribological Testing & Data-Driven Validation

Dedicated cross-cutting activities will highlight emerging materials, industrial tribology and innovation pathways from Horizon Europe projects to industrial impact.
