In order to understand the history of LS Instruments, it is first of all necessary to simply explain what LS stands for. It stands for Light Scattering, a technology that is of great importance in the study of soft matter.

The founders of LS Instruments, Professors Peter Schurtenberger and Frank Scheffold, both physicists, spent years researching soft materials and especially protein systems. However, the originally available light scattering technology did not allow research to be carried out on concentrated samples. In addition, there was always the risk that measurements were erroneous and the scientist could not figure this out from the results. Peter and Frank dedicated themselves to exactly this problem. The goal was to extend the well known and commercially available light scattering technology to also enable the reliable characterization of turbid and highly concentrated samples.

The foundations for the LS Instruments technology and products were laid early on through research projects at the ETH Zurich and the University of Fribourg. The results are the patented technologies Echo DWS utilized in the DWS RheoLab and modulated 3D cross-correlation, available in the LS Spectrometer and NanoLab 3D.

Since its foundation as a public limited company ("Aktiengesellschaft" under Swiss law) in 2010, LS Instruments has built up a customer base in 34 countries worldwide. The extension of measurable samples, the unmatched precision, and excellent customer service have helped LS Instruments to establish itself in a very demanding market.

As a science-driven company, we aim at delivering the most powerful technology to enable cutting-edge research on nanoparticles, polymers, and surfactants and science-driven product development. The true strength of our instruments unfolds beyond the measuring range of standard instruments.

Nano Flow offers a service for antibody/protein custom conjugation to its highly spherical 20 and 40nm citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles. The resulting gold conjugates have high sensitivity and high stability allowing you to develop high-performance and reliable diagnostic assays.

Our innovative industrial process for antibody conjugation ensures successful conjugation. The crucial properties of the gold nanoparticles (polydispersity, color, stability) are not affected during this step, which means our conjugates have maximum activity. Automation of the conjugation process allows for excellent batch-to-batch reproducibility and limits the risk of non-compliant batches.

WAINVAM-E was created in April 2020 one year after Claude Barraud and Remi Geiger first met. Since the summer of 2020, WAINVAN-E has been based in Ploemeur in the west region of France, where the offices of the administrative, IT, marketing and sales teams rub shoulders with the optics, electronics and biology laboratories and the R&D research engineers.
